About Sirte Free Zone
From the heart of the Mediterranean... Redrawing Libya's Future
The Sirte Free Zone is strategically located on the Libyan coast along the Mediterranean Sea, covering an area of approximately 236 hectares. It connects North Africa to sub-Saharan countries. It is an important meeting point on the international shipping line between Europe, Africa, and Asia.
Sirte Free Zone was established by Libyan Cabinet Resolution No. (71) dated March 20, 2024, and aims to promote commercial and economic activity in the city of Sirte. It enjoys legal personality and independent financial responsibility.
The zone aims to be an integrated platform for logistics and trade services, supporting the Libyan economy and serving neighboring countries, especially landlocked African countries such as Chad, Niger and Mali, by providing direct access to global markets across the Mediterranean Sea.
The free zone seeks to support development efforts in Sirte through modern governance models, encouraging investment in infrastructure, and promoting regional integration.
Vision
Sustainable development that serves Libya and its African depth
Within the framework of Libya’s Vision 2030, the Sirte Free Zone aspires to become a regional hub for trade and logistics in the Southern Mediterranean, and Africa’s maritime gateway to global markets. The zone focuses on attracting quality investments within a clear regulatory environment that offers tax and customs incentives and legal guarantees that allow freedom of action for investors and promote a stable business climate.
It is also working to diversify the Libyan economy through the development of sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, energy, and food industries, which contribute to providing job opportunities, building capacities, and achieving balanced economic growth that serves Libya and the region.
